Here is some information for this Saturday.

When: June 2nd, 2012
Where: Matthews Arena @ Northeastern University

Parking:
Each team will be allocated one parking spot at Matthews Arena. All other vehicles should park at the Renaissance Garage which offers all day parking for $6.00.

Lunch:
You will need money for food, we suggest $25 for the day.
A concession stand will also be opened all day at Pit Admin

Up Coming Events and Change of Plans

BeanTown Parking and Prepping:
Due to Shrewsbury High School’s Commemoration and Graduation we have to change our BeanTown Packing and Prepping to Friday June 1st from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.

Detail on what is happening at BeanTown on Saturday June 2nd will be coming.

Shrewsbury Robotics Shindig:
We have changed the date of our party to June 23rd. We will be meeting at Dean Park from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. We will have activities planned, and we will have food too.

This celebration will be for the entire robotics team, your whole family is invited to attend! Bring Mom and Dad, brothers and sisters, grandparents, aunts and uncles, etc!

So we have an idea of how many people will be coming to the Shindig we have set up a Facebook event that can be found here. When accepting the invite please comment on how many people will be coming with you.

Regional Winner Medals:
We have extra Medals for the students that did not make it to Washington DC. We will be handing out these Medals at the Shrewsbury Robotics Shindig on June 23rd.

There are requirements in getting a Medal- you must have been eligible to travel to Washington DC or have helped in the submission of awards in order to get a Regional Winner Medal, also you must have completed the requirements on the 2011-2012 Student Team Contract found in the Team Handbook.

BeanTown Blitz/Shrewsbury Robotics Shindig/Regional Winner Medals/Summer Robotics Camp Prep/Summer Camp Coaches

Hello Team,

BeanTown Blitz:

On June 2nd we will be competing at BeanTown Blitz at Northeastern Univ. We will have more information on this later, but we need to work on the robot so we will meet on Wednesday May 30th and Thursday May 31st from 6:30PM to 9:00PM.

Shrewsbury Robotics Shindig:

On June 9th we are going to get together to celebrate this robotics season. We as a team have a lot to celebrate- A new room, current and new sponsors, current and new mentor and student members, a Regional Win, the future, and much much more!

This celebration will be for the entire robotics team, your whole family is invited to attend! Bring Mom and Dad, brothers and sisters, grandparents, aunts and uncles - and anyone else!

Raj needs to help setting this up if there are any adults that can help with this we will have a small meeting this Thursday May 24th at 6:00PM in the Robotics Room.

Regional Winner Medals:

Summer Robotics Camp Prep:

Starting this Thursday from 6:30PM to 9:00PM we will be meeting to prepare for our summer camp. We will be going though all of our supplies. We have not touched the lego supplies since the Fall FLL Season, so there is a lot of organizing to do.

If you plan on or are interested in being a coach (see below) this event is something you must help with.

Also, if you plan to coach Fall Legos in Oct-Dec it is HIGHLY recommended that you sign-up to be a coach this summer.

ALL Coaches that are 18+ and not a High School student must pass a CORI check. If you have filled out a CORI form this year, that check is only good for the current school year. On July 1st a new school year starts and new CORI form must be filled out.

2012 Summer Robotics Camp

LOOKING FOR ACTIVITIES? WE’VE GOT WHAT YOU NEED!

Shrewsbury Robotics is proud to present Summer Robotics Camp at Shrewsbury High School. We will be teaching students about Science and Engineering, by using Lego Robotics, Trebuchet, and Rockets. Science and Engineering play a big part in our everyday lives and in the world, we plan to help student understand Science and Engineering and how these subjects affect them.

Shrewsbury Robotics will offer 4 weeks of summer activities this summer starting July 09th, 2012 to August 3rd, 2012. The 4 weeks will be broken down into one week sections. Each student will participate in 2 of 3 activities:

Lego Robotics
Trebuchet
Rockets

Each activity will teach students different aspects of Science and Engineering and Technology. All activities will teach students about Teamwork, Compromise, Success, Failure and much much more!

Available for Students entering Grades 4 to 8.

Dates – Times: (All weeks run Monday to Friday)

July 09th – 13th – 8:30am to 3:30pm (Lego Robotics & Rockets)

BattleCry 13 @ WPI

Hello Team,

We will be competing at BattleCry 13 this coming weekend at WPI. The event will take place in Harrington Auditorium on the WPI Campus, the same location the WPI Regional. For direction please go here.

To get ready for this event we will be meeting this Thursday from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. There are two projects we will be working on:

Prepare the Robot for Friday and
Pack Gear into trucks and vans for Friday.

Please note that the same rules we use for our regional apply for off season events, this includes being sent home.

If you need a ride on Friday please email Kush (kush@shrewsburyrobotics.org) as soon as possible so we can make sure we have enough space for everyone. We will be leave the High School from the front door. If you don’t email Kush by Thursday you will NOT get a ride.

BattleCry will run Friday May 18th from 3:00pm to 9:00pm and Saturday May 19th from 7:00am to 5:00pm. All team members must wear your jersey.

On Saturday we will be meeting at WPI at 7:15am.

2012 Relay Rundown

Hello Team,

Relay rundown, things you need to know/do.

Held at Oak Middle School. There will probably be signs there - follow them.
Setup will begin at 4 - if you can help out, that would be great. We are at campsite 6.
Opening ceremonies are at 6pm, please try to get there before then.
Event ends at 12pm the next day, you are free to leave when you wish, but you MUST inform someone before you do so. General/rough schedule is attached.

TO BRING:

If you want a tshirt, you must bring in your $100 of fundraising (online counts)
Your donation envelope SIGNED BY A PARENT ON THE FLAP! If you are under 18, you MUST do so.
Any Luminaria bags that you sold (or didn’t. Bring back extras please)
$10 Registration fee - NOT in the donation envelope!
More $$$ for spending, buying food etc.
Not a lot of food is provided by Relay, so please please please bring plenty of snacks, water, soda and food.
Warm/dry clothing (sweatpants, etc. It gets cold at 3am, and it’s going to rain as well)
Rainproof stuff (umbrella, etc)
Lawn chairs
Sleeping bags, blankets, pillows
Boredom busters (games, books, football, frisbee, paper airplanes, camera, etc)
Comfortable shoes, extra socks
Tarps/tents (standard size stakes only)
Stuff for Relay Themed Laps (check attachments)
Duct tape
Flashlights
Anything else you feel may be necessary. Remember, you’re there for one night, not a week. At the same time, almost 30 people are coming, so if you have extra chairs etc, that would be great.

When you reach the campus, please come and report to our campsite (6 - check attachment for picture) right away, and we will tell you what you need to know.

School Committee Presentation

Hello Team,

Before we continue onto more events in May (which there are many) we have one more event this month.

We have been invited to this Wednesday’s School Committee Meeting. There will be a short presentation of our season covering the start of our season (with no shop) to our win and onto our future plans. This will also include a demo of our robot.

We want to pack the Selectman’s Room at the Town Hall during our meeting, so this event is an ALL TEAM event!! We would like everyone to join us with your Team Shirt and metals, we will even have our Duct Tape flag there.

To prepare we will meet at 6:00pm at the High School to load our gear then we will head to Town Hall for a 7:00pm start.

A Decision Has Been Made

Hello Team,

Unfortunately, due to time and financial constraints, we have decided to postpone our ticket to the FIRST National competition until 2013. The $6000 entry fee is due tomorrow, and the cost of the hotel is due on Friday. It simply is not feasible to organize a trip and to raise the funds necessary to travel to St. Louis in the next four days.

Postponing the trip will allow the team to raise funds in a less frantic fashion and to not spend our hard-raised money on last-minute airfare and hotel charges. We think that this is the financially responsible way to deal with our successes this year, and will allow us to plan a trip for everyone on the team to remember for 2013.

We cannot tell you how proud of we are of the entire team. The team started without a shop room and with a large set of new kids. Over the fall we formed a disparate group of kids into a cohesive team. Once we had access to the shop you learned the equipment and built a championship robot that was the aesthetic envy of every Washington D.C. attendee. With a year to organize and plan, next year’s trip to St. Louis will be a trip to remember!

2012 Washington DC Regional Champions

Hello Everyone,

Our FIRST robotics team, Team 467 “Shrewsbury Colonials”, did awesome at the Washington DC Regional in Washington DC this weekend. Our team had 9 Qualifying Matches and had a record of 7-2-0. At the end of the qualification matches we were ranked 3rd.

We entered the Finals as the 2nd Seeded Alliance with Team 357 and Team 2914. Our Alliance powered thorough to the Finals where we were we were matched against the 1st Seeded Alliance, led by the first place team. In our final match we defeated the 1st Seeded Alliance to become the 2012 Washington DC Regional Champions.

In addition, we were also awarded the Team Spirit Award. The judges recognized our team for our participation in the Shrewsbury community such as Spirit of Shrewsbury, Relay for Life, and LEGO robotics. They were also impressed with the family atmosphere of our team.

Because of our regional victory the team is considering competing at FIRST Robotics National Competition in St. Louis, Missouri.

We have a great group and we are very proud of each student on the team. The teams positive attitude, gracious professionalism, creativity, and spirit is a testament to the Our Team, Our Sponsors, and Our School.

Please join us in congratulating Team 467, “Shrewsbury Colonials”. the 2012 Washington DC Regional Champions!

Washington DC Trip Info

Hello Team!

Last week’s build time was great, we got a lot done but were not done yet! There is still a lot to do before we leave for Washington DC, so we are going to meet this Monday and Tuesday from 6pm-9pm. We need to pack all of our gear, pack our robot, and do a final clean up of our room.

Because we are so close to our trip we want to use this time to remind you of a few things:

Preparing for Washington: We will be meeting Monday March 26th and Tuesday March 26th to pack all our gear, our robot for the bus, and do a final clean up of our room.

Wednesday March 28th: The team will be leaving for the Washington DC Regional at 4:00AM. We will meet at the Front Entrance of the High School at 3:30AM to begin loading our gear onto the bus. This bus will leave at 4:00am and will leave behind anyone that is late. Be on time!

Everyone, including adults, are allowed to bring no more then ONE Travel Bag (pants, shirts, team shirts, hats, hygienic weaponry, etc) per person with them for the trip. School Bags (the 100lbs bag you carry around with your books, pens, pencils, crayons, sticker books, etc) does NOT count as your ONE travel bag. Students who wish to bring their school bag on the bus are responsible for all books and items, the bus will not turn around to get forgotten items. This also goes for any electronic devices brought on the trip.

Cars at the HIgh School: Anyone leaving their car at the High School for the duration of the trip MUST email Raj (raj@shrewsburyrobotics.org) with the make, model, color, and license plate number of your car. This is so we can give the info to the High School and the Police Department so the cars don’t get towed.

Still Preparing For Washington

2012 Relay for Life

Hello Team!

Relay for Life is a cancer walk that we traditionally do every year. It’s overnight at Oak Middle School from May 11-12th (Juniors, watch out for AP exams). Here’s what you have to do: (it takes 5 minutes, seriously). EVEN IF YOU’RE NOT SURE YOU CAN COME DO IT ALL ANYWAY.

Go HERE and click Join Team. Choose Participant Registration – Cash or Check and fill out the rest. YOU HAVE TO SIGN UP ONLINE. To stay overnight, you have to raise $100 and pay $10 registration or raise $110+
If you don’t have a STUDENT WAIVER, go to HERE print it out/have it signed and GET IT TO MARGARET/MUNEEBA. YOU CAN’T COME UNLESS YOU DO THIS. We’re trying to do this early so we don’t have to chase you down. Also, not part of the form, but please put your tshirt size down.
Ask your parents if they want to chaperone – we need one chaperone per 5 kids, and we have a big team. Print and fill out THIS FORM and get that back to us too.
Sorry for not getting this to you before break, but you’ll be getting supplies: collection envelope, 3 Luminaria bags, and youth waiver form. Luminaria are sold for $10, person who buys it can decorate it/whatnots in memoriam of somebody who died of cancer and they give it back to you. Bring them with you to Relay, they will be lit up.
Fundraising – people can go to your page and donate online, you can go door to door, parent’s workplace, whatever.

WE ARE EXPECTING FULL TEAM PARTICIPATION. A legitimate excuse is that you’re going to be in Florida that weekend. A non legitimate excuse is that you’re too lazy to fundraise. Either way, sign up now and cancel later if you have to, because that’s easier than last minute signing up.

2012 WPI Regional Recap\Plans before Washington DC

Hello Team,

We will start with a small recap of this passed weekend, then move on to the plan for the weeks to come.

WPI Regional: Our FIRST Robotics team, Team 467 ”Shrewsbury Colonials”, did very well at the WPI Regional in Worcester, MA this weekend. Our team had 12 qualifying matches and our team had a record of 7-5-0, and at the end of the day 2 we were ranked 16th.

Our Team, was part of the 8th Alliance along with Team 230 and Team 348, made it to the Quarter Finals and beat the 1st Seeded Alliance to move on to the Semi-Finals. In the Semi-Finals our Alliance made it to Round 3, but were beaten.

We left the WPI Regional Ranked 3rd out of 34. A great achievement!! We have a great group and we are very proud of each student on the team. Spirits were high as the entire the WPI arena enjoyed the enthusiasm of the Shrewsbury Colonials!

The next stop for the team is the Washington DC Regional at the Washington Convention Center on March 28th-April 1st, where were we will compete with 64 other teams.

Before Washington DC: Now on to the plan to prepare for Washington. We are planning to meet this week from 6:30pm-9pm on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday in the robotics shop so we can make upgrades and repairs. We will also meet to make more pins and give aways for DC. Depending on how this week go we will plan on more time the following week if we need it.

2012 WPI Regional

WPI Regional is this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 7:30AM to 5:00PM.

We will be meeting at WPI at 7:30AM you must check in with Raj and receive safety glasses.

All team members must have safety glasses and your team shirt, you must see Raj Thursday morning to get your saftey glasses. If you already have your safety glasses remember that you MUST bring them with you Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. We will be collecting all safety glasses Saturday after the event ends.

Know that these events are very very loud and the chance to hear yourself think not the mention a phone ring is very low. Please leave a message!

2012 March Events

Hello Team,

Here are a list of up coming events for the month of March:

Starting February 27th, we will be meeting from 6:30PM to 9:00PM to fix the practice robot and we will also have drivers practice. We will continue to meet every other day until March 7th. If you are interested in driving, navigating, or being a human player please come to these meetings.

Friday March 2nd: Spirit Night - We will be meeting for Spirit Night (formally Duct Tape Night) at 6:30pm to 9:00pm. This event is open to ALL!! Come and make your spirit stuff and duct tape outfits. We don’t have a supply of Duct Tape so make sure you bring lots of Duct Tape and extra large shirts, remember three things:

1. Duct Tape makes things smaller

2. Duct Tape does not breathe.

3. Making weapons of any kind are off limits (Duct Tape Pants are weapons).

We would like everyone (this includes any parents) that have helped us through-out the last 6 weeks (and some that have helped out long before the build season started) to show up for a Team Picture. The picture will be taken at 9:00pm with all of our duct tape gear!

Saturday March 3rd: Manchester Regional - We are heading to Manchester to watch a few matches and gain some insight at the BAE Regional. We will be leaving the High School at 9:30AM and arriving back at about 4:00pm. If you would like to come please email Tsom (john@shrewsburyrobotics.org) so that we can arrange for rides.

Wednesday March 7th: Packing for WPI Regional - Not only will we be having more drivers practice we will also be meeting at the High School at 6:00PM to 9:00PM to pack all the tools and supplies for WPI. Please remember that since WPI is close by we will not have a bus, we will be meeting at WPI.

March 8th-10th: WPI Regional - Our first regional! This event is open to the public, so all are welcome. We will all be meeting at WPI at 7:30am.

Tuesday March 27th: Packing for Washington DC - We will be meeting at the High School at 6:00PM to 9:00PM to pack all the tools and supplies for Washington DC.

March 28th-April 1st: Washington Regional - This is our second regional and more info will be sent out as we get closer.

A Robot is Born

Congratulations Team!

After 6 weeks of hard work, close to 5,000 hours of work, countless pasta diners, and enough drinking cup to fill a recycling truck, the robot was Bagged and Tagged on time at 11:45PM.

The maximum weight of the robot is 119.2 pounds out of 120 pounds. Also, it was shipped completed - driving, throwing, picking up the balls and has a awesome autonomous program . There are a few small items that will need to be taken care of at our first event at WPI, but nothing major.

Everyone of the Team should be VERY proud of what you have done, the adults on the team are amazed at the dedication of the students. Your hard work has shown in the robot you have made!

We still have a long ways to go but we would like to take a minute and thank all the Volunteers, Parents, Students, and Sponsors for all their time and energy, this could not have been done with out you!

There are a few upcoming meetings that everyone needs to attend:

Starting February 27th, we will be meeting from 6:30PM to 9:00PM to fix the practice robot and we will also have drivers practice. We will continue to meet every other day until March 2nd. If you are interested in driving, navigating, or being a human player please come to these meetings.

On Friday, March 2nd, we will have Spirit Day! More on that later.

And on Saturday March 3rd - Several team members will be heading up to the Manchester Regional, to observe the matches and check out the robots. Everyone is welcome to come along (we will be taking private vehicles up.) We highly recommend that you come with us, to check out other teams strategy.

2011-12 Travel Payment Deadline

Hello Team,

Tomorrow is the Payment Deadline for the WPI and Washington trips. The total cost per high school student attending these trips will be $550.

To re-cap this amount includes:

Two (2) regionals
Four (4) night hotel stay,
Activities in Washington DC,
Four (4) Breakfast/Dinners in Washington DC.

Please make check out to: Shrewsbury Robotics.

Aside from payment all students must complete all Qualifications for Attending Competitions from the team handbook.

We will make every attempt for all team members to travel to our events. If there are any families that are unable to pay the $550 travel cost, you must speak with Raj Patel by tomorrow.

Jersey and Jacket Orders/STIMS/Travel Meeting

Hello Team,

With only 12 days left in this year build season there are a few things you should know:

Team Jersey and Jackets:

We will be placing orders for Team Jersey and Jackets. We have changed the Team Jersey so that it better fits our new name and look. This year we will requiring EVERYONE to get a new Team Jersey!

EVERYONE will be given a discount on one (1) Team Jersey at $30. This is our “uniform” and is required. We will also be selling our Team Jacket, this is an optional item and NOT required. The price includes your embroidered First Name on both the Team Jersey and Jackets

Student Team Information Member System (STIMS):

If you have not yet done so, please visit https://my.usfirst.org/stims/site.lasso to access STIMS. If you are traveling to DC or WPI you must use have a sign FIRST release form. There is no paper version so if you wish to travel you must use STIMS.

Travel Info Meeting:

There will be a travel meeting on February 14th at 7:00pm in the Food Lab. In this meeting we will discuss Cost, Schedule, and other info needed for our WPI Regional/Washington DC Regional trips on March 8th-10th/March 28th-April 1st. This meeting is meant for all members of the team (including parents).

Drivers Test:

Lastly If you are interested in being a driver, navigator, human player, or coach there will be a written rules test on Saturday at 4:00PM.
